A watch project began in 2001 and it paired Seiko Instruments Inc. with the creative direction of the Miyake Design Studio. Issey Miyake is an internationally renowned designer. His spirit of innovative product creation and the goal of enhancing people’s daily lives is what spared the Issey Miyake watches. Issey Miyake creates some of the most innovative series of watches possible by bringing together the creative and imaginative impulses of architects, industrial and interior designers, and contemporary artists. The designers for each watch are handpicked by Issey Miyake. The designers that are picked are world renowned in their select fields and the watch designs are completely unique and innovative. There have been six designers involved in the project to date, each of whom has created a watch true to the spirit of Issey Miyake, interpreted in their voice. The designers are always faced with the challenge of creating a fresh design, as well as an analogue watch, that will be made in Japan. The designers also create their own package design. The collaborative efforts of the trios comprised of designer, Seiko and the Miyake Design Studio continue to result in beautiful, functional designs, each of which is distinct and affordable.
